The Fiesta de las Natitas can be called the ultimate of a lot of things. It might justifiably be called the ultimate skull fetish and the ultimate freak show, but more than anything what it is, in a very beautiful way, is the ultimate example of the connection between life and death. Still largely unknown by the outside world, its authenticity exposes the Dia de los Muertos of Mexico as the work of poseurs. For those unfamiliar with Natitas, I can offer my own article, written for the Fortean Times: http://www.forteantimes.com/features/articles/3130/skull_cops_and_the_cult_of_the_atitas.html
I would dearly love to find more magazine editors interested in stories on this phenomenon, and especially a publisher who is interested in a book–it deserves one.
